Microbiologically induced aesthetic and structural changes to dimension stone

نویسندگان

چکیده

Abstract Dimension stone is natural rock prepared for building use. It rapidly colonised by microorganisms that cause discoloration (mainly cyanobacteria, algae and fungi) structural damage. Microbial mobilisation of ions leads to new superficial or internal deposits, weakening the structure. Cyanobacteria fungi may penetrate, filling pores creating spaces. Lichens, fungus/phototroph associations, colonise surfaces damage through ingrowing rhizines acid production. Initial degradation produces conditions suitable germination seeds higher plants further destruction. Emerging techniques elucidate stone-cell interactions control initial biofilm formation eventuates in disintegration are discussed.

the aesthetic dimension of howard barkers art: a frankfurtian approach to scenes from an execution and no end of blame

Ranking sawability of dimension stone using PROMETHEE method

Predicting the sawability of the dimension stone is one of the most important factors involved in production planning. Moreover, this factor can be used as an important criterion in the cost estimation and planning of the stone plants. The main purpose for carrying out this work was to rank the sawability of the dimension stone using the PROMETHEE method. In this research work, four important p...

Microbiologically induced deterioration of concrete - A Review

Microbiologically induced deterioration (MID) causes corrosion of concrete by producing acids (including organic and inorganic acids) that degrade concrete components and thus compromise the integrity of sewer pipelines and other structures, creating significant problems worldwide. Understanding of the fundamental corrosion process and the causal agents will help us develop an appropriate strat...

Urease activity in microbiologically-induced calcite precipitation.

The role of microbial urease in calcite precipitation was studied utilizing a recombinant Escherichia coli HB101 containing a plasmid, pBU11, that encodes Bacillus pasteurii urease. The calcite precipitation by E. coli HB101 (pBU11) was significant although its precipitation level was not as high as that by B. pasteurii. Addition of low concentrations (5-100 microM) of nickel, the cofactor of u...
